All students need a message book. When the message book is full, or if lost, a new one can be bought at the school. Messages and inquiries concerning exemptions and similar should be written in the message book. It is parents' responsibility to ensure that messages from the school are reviewed, signed and returned to the school in order ot meet deadlines.

Mobile telephones
Mobile telephones are not permitted at the Prekindergarten and Lower Secondary levels. Mobile telephones are disruptive during lessons and interrupt the childrens' play. However, students and parents may need to contact each other after school hours. Therefore, students who have mobile phones must leave them in the school office upon their arrival in the morning and may collect them before leaving in the afternoon. If a parent should need to contact his/her child during the day, s/he may telephone the office, and the student will be given a message immediately.
Students at the Lower Secondary level may use their mobile phones during breaks, but they are not allowed during lessons. Please note that students are not permitted to use the camera function on their phones while at school. Students are also strictly prohibited from bringing mobile telephones to exams. Bringing a telephone to an exam will result in exclusion from the exam.
Computers
It is strictly forbidden to use the school computers during breaks unless the teacher has given permission to do so. Computer use is to be in connection with teaching and learning. Students may only use computers if a teacher finds it necessary to do so. Rules regarding computer use can be found at www.thecosmo.dk at the blog of The Cosmo. Rules governing web ethics can also be found here.
The After School Recreation Centre
The Cosmo also has an After School Recreation Centre -SFO -for students between 5 to 11 years. There are accommodations for 30 children.
Students attending The After School Recreation Centre have the opportunity to spend time with both Kolding Realskole students and The Cosmo students. This additional afterschool interaction provides students with an opportunity to learn and understand more about the varied cultural backgrounds that contribute to our school community, practice their Danish, and establish closer relationships with their classmates.
Students attending the SFO will be assigned a contact person, to whom you can address your queries regarding the time spent there. A snack is provided, and students participate in supervised activities.
We have students at The Cosmo attending the centre all weekdays and also students who only attend fewer days during the week.
Parents-Teachers Interviews
During the school years parents are invited to two parent/teacher meetings where a student's academic progress is discussed along with his/her social development.
Absences
The Home Room Teacher approves short absences - those of a few hours - after receiving a written request from parents. Absences of a whole day or more must be approved by the Headmaster upon his receipt of a written request in a student's message book. It is recommended that children are absent only when absolutely required.
Exemptions from PE or from showering after PE are only given for shorter periods by the PE teacher or by the head. Exemptions lasting longer than four weeks require a medical certificate. The school nurse distributes the forms for that purpose. The medical certificate is paid by the parents according to the teaching guidelines of the 20th of November 1985.
Use of facilities
As we are a department of Kolding Realskole, we use some of the facilities in the main buildings including:
• Science laboratories
• Gymnasium
• Music rooms
• Computer lab
• Library
• Art rooms
• Activities and Lessons
Students in The Cosmo join with students in Kolding Realskole for some events such as Sports Day, School parties, Spring Concert and Fancy-dress party at Shrovetide and so on. These activities are compulsory.
Most students at The Cosmo have English as a second language. As a result, teachers are experienced in providing learning activities to meet a wide range of abilities in each class.
Students with Special Learning Needs
The Cosmo is open to all students; however we need to be fully aware in advance of any special learning needs and you are obligated to disclose any past diagnoses or additional learning support that has been given.
Depending on the special learning needs of your child, it may not be possible for us to provide for your child as well as he/she may be provided for more adequately elsewhere.
The Cosmo and Kolding Realskole have a No-Bullying Policy.
